Cool heads are needed on the abortion-breast cancer link

Senator Eric Abetz
“I don't have that scientific expertise” but he simply reported the fact that many studies do “assert that there is a link”.

A Mexican wave of moral indignation swept through the chattering class this month in Australia

"when the hypothesis was raised of a link between abortion and breast cancer."

We heard, in shrill tones, that claims of such a link are “factually incorrect” (blogger Mia Freedman), “absurd” (Simon Breheny of the IPA) and even “an insult to all women” (Greens MP Adam Bandt). With the arrival this week of breast surgeon and cancer researcher Dr Angela Lanfranchi to speak to this hypothesis, we can expect a resurgence of this rage.

Yet no such public frenzy occurred when the closest male equivalent – a correlation between vasectomy and prostate cancer – was proposed only last month. Why is it a slur against women to consider a link between abortion and breast cancer, but no slur against men to suggest that vasectomy might be linked to prostate cancer? Both hypotheses remain unproven, plagued by conflicting evidence, yet both deal with grave medical issues that demand ongoing dispassionate research.
. . . So why would the AMA President treat with such contempt research which might help women know they are higher-risk and therefore needing closer screening?

Instead he issued a ruling:There is no link between abortion and breast cancer. We need to make that very clear to the public, and certainly we should not be promoting any papers from the 1950s.

This reference to the 1950s was in response to comments made by:
Senator Eric Abetz on the Ten Network’s The Project

Watch his lips as he speaks the words that lit the fuse of this month’s media frenzy:I think the studies, and I think they date back from the 1950s, assert that there is a link between abortion and breast cancer”.

Abetz was correct, and if Dr Owler was so inclined he could read back through more than seventy published studies between 1957 and 2014 and find that more than three quarters of them (of widely varying quality) assert a correlation between abortion and breast cancer. So where is the cause for offense in the Senator’s statement?

Abetz made clear that he was not going to make a judgement on the “factual correctness” of the hypothesis saying, “I don’t have that scientific expertise” but he simply reported the fact that many studies do “assert that there is a link”.

#RawIslam : ISIS Pay & Release or we Execute 26yr old American Woman

ISIS Demands $6.6 Million Ransom For American Woman

ISIS is demanding $6.6 million in ransom to stop the threatened execution of a 26-year-old American woman. The family of the hostage has asked the media to withhold her name, but note that the woman was involved with humanitarian relief in Syria when she went missing in 2013.

Aafia Siddiqui
Aka: "Prisoner 650",
Aka: "Grey lady of Baghram",
Aka: "Lady al-Qaeda"
The demand from Islamic State militants comes just one week after a video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley was posted online. In addition to the $6.6 million ransom for the American woman, ISIS is demand the release of Aafia Siddiqui – a MIT-trained neuroscientist was convicted on attempted murder and assault charges of United States officers and employees in Afghanistan in 2010. The Islamic State militants (also known as ISIL) will execute the 26-year-old American women if both demands are not met. Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in prison after her 14-day jury trial.

ISIS Ethnic Cleansing:

670 Shia  Prisoners Murdered

In Shia Prison Massacre, UN Reports

An estimated 670 inmates from Badush prison in the city of Mosul were reportedly murdered by ISIS militants on June 10, 2014, UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said in a statement on Monday. The mass murder was cited by the accounts of some 20 survivors and 16 witnesses.

According to the Independent, during the incident ISIS militants

now calling themselves the Islamic State

loaded between 1,000 and 1,500 prisoners from the institution on to trucks and drove them to an uninhabited area. They then separated Sunni inmates and removed them from the group. The Shia prisoners remaining were verbally assaulted by the ISIS militants and then lined up into four rows. At this point, they were told to kneel. Witnesses say that is when the ISIS militants shot all of the Shia prisoners, killing them all.

#RawIslam: 15 yr Old Gang Raped by Two Muslim Men in Pakistan

RAW ISLAM: Muslim Men in Pakistan
By ICC's Pakistan Correspondent
8/25/2014 Pakistan (International Christian Concern) - Christian women continue to face a unique and brutal form of persecution in Pakistan's religiously intolerant society.

Christian women are among Pakistan's poorest and most vulnerable citizens due to the face that they are both the "wrong" religion and the "wrong" gender

Abductions, forced conversions to Islam, forced marriages to Muslim men and rapes are just some of the issues faced Christian women in Pakistan. Living on perhaps the lowest rung of society, many Christian women have their futures destroyed by these heinous acts of violence visited upon them simply because of their faith.

Muqadas Liaqat, a 15-year-old Christian girl, was gang raped by two Muslim men on August 2 at Baghwanpura, a neighborhood in Lahore.

The FIR number 991/14 was registered against the two Muslim attackers, Ashraf and Muhammad Ghafoor, at the local police station shortly after the attack. According to sources, both of the accused were arrested and are reported to still be in police custody.

Talking with ICC's Pakistan correspondent, Muqadas, who works as maid (domestic worker) in several Muslim homes, said,
"I was coming home in the afternoon along with my elder sister Asma, when four people including two men and two women stopped us on the road and started beating us and abusing us. They beat my sister and dragged me into an auto-rickshaw. The kidnappers forcefully put some liquid into my mouth, which made me unconscious for a while."
"Both the men took turns raping me and the women threatened me and my family if I spoke out against them,Muqadas continued.
Mukhtaran Bibi, Muqadas's mother, informed ICC that,
"Muqadas was to be baptized on the day of the incident. She was very happy for this blessing since the morning; however, this incident has affected her spiritual and social life."
"This incident has brought Muqadas to become very depressed. She is continuously on edge and cries during the whole night. I demand justice and protection of all the Christian women in Pakistan," Mukhtaran added.
Liaqat Masih, Muqadas's father, was reluctant to share information regarding the case due to threats by what he termed were "other parties." Despite the threats, he told ICC,
"My family is under pressure and facing countless challenges because of this inhuman incident. We Christians are being persecuted in this society because of our faith. However, nothing can separate us from the love of Christ."
Gulnaz Yousaf, Chairperson of DIGNITY First, an organization engaged in promoting dignity, rights and protection for all Pakistani citizens, condemned the incident and demanded justice and security for the victim family.
"Christians are treated as 'untouchables' in this country and do not enjoy equal rights. The dignity of women, especially Christian women and women from other religious minority groups, must be recognized and promoted in Pakistan,Gulnaz said in an interview with ICC.

Unfortunately, the attack endured by Muqadas is only the latest in a pandemic stretching across Pakistan in recent years.

Christian women are too often the targets of brutal attacks because of their low social status caused their religious identity and gender. With a society and legal system that are both biased against non-Muslims and women in general, pursuing justice is near impossible, especially for Christian women who often come from meager financial backgrounds.

Because of stories like Muqadas's, International Christian Concern (ICC) has made it a priority to help Christian women in Pakistan. From projects aimed at empowering Christian women to pursue justice, to assisting Christian women to achieve higher social and financial standing, ICC hopes it can help make stories like Muqadas's a part of a horrific past for Christian women in Pakistan.

Ali had no contact with his family, no way of calling for help. He was all alone.
He’s now serving 12 years in prison -- a sentence the UN says is based solely on things he said while being tortured.
Ali was extradited to Morocco to face terrorism charges despite grave warnings from Amnesty International and the UN Human Rights Committee that he was at risk of unfair trial and torture.
Convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison, Ali’s ‘confession’ -- extracted via torture and later recanted in court -- was the only evidence presented at his trial.

#RawIslam: Real Stories From The Battlefield: Hamas’s offensive tunnel network

Hamas Tunnels Used To Target Israel’s Kindergartens
Posted By Guns and Gear On 9:16 AM 07/27/2014 By Mordechai Ben-Menachem

Multiple media outlets report that Hamas’s offensive tunnel network – now known to have been composed of over forty attack tunnels dug underneath Israel’s border with the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip – was set to be activated during the Jewish High Holidays (September 24th) as a mass terror attack.

The attack was meant to generate as many as ten thousand casualties, men, women and particularly children and hundreds of captives. Explosives were particularly placed underneath kindergartens to make certain that these “institutions” would be the first struck, even before anything else.

The IDF recently published the below map showing that tunnels were created in pairs, to empty out on both sides of nearby communities. The known cost of the infrastructure – each tunnel costs upward of some $1 million – clearly shows that Hamas was planning a coordinated mega-attack. It must be understood that use of even one tunnel would inevitably trigger Israeli retaliation against the entire network.

A map of a small portion of the tunnels meant to be used 9 weeks from now.
Revelations regarding the planned tunnel attack magnitude played a decisive role in the Israeli government’s rejection of a ceasefire proposed late Friday by Secretary of State John Kerry.

Unbelievably, Kerry actually proposed in his latest “ceasefire proposal” – none of which have been honored by Hamas so far – that Israel refrains from degrading remaining attack tunnels. This mind-boggling concept would necessarily be rejected by any sane government, of any country.

Israeli security sources, citing information acquired in interrogations of captured brigands, described a scenario under which hundreds of heavily armed Hamas fighters would have spilled out into Israel in the dead of night and within 10 minutes been positioned to infiltrate essentially all Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza Strip. Waiting then in hiding until schools and kindergartens were occupied, the terrorists would then attempt to kill the children first, and then kill and kidnap as many Israelis as possible. The plot was set to take place during Jewish New Year, on September 24.

It’s like the Underground, the Metro or the Subway,” Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said. “These tunnels are all connected. I would describe it as Lower Gaza.

Israeli Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said, “A whole city of terror tunnels has been found. Without the ground operation, we would have woken up one day to an Israeli 9/11.

Except, the actual objective was to be five times 9/11.

This picture shows clearly the width of one of the tunnels, sufficient for wheeled vehicles to transverse it.
Hamas did not build a “subway” system for Gaza residents.
They built an infrastructure for one purpose, and one only, an industry of death.

Israeli military officials reported that the tunnels are stocked with tranquilizers, handcuffs, syringes, ropes and other materials used for subduing abductees, civilians and soldiers. The tunnels also had fantastic quantities of explosives and additional military materiel meant to be used in the upcoming mega attack.

Much of these explosives had already been placed underneath Israeli kindergartens.

Some of these tunnels were as deep as 30 meters underground.

Fantastic quantities of explosives were stored in every tunnel,
meant to be used in a mega-attack on civilian communities and infrastructure.

Sources say the Gaza Strip war, Operation Protective Edge, could serve as a prelude for a more extensive underground war with the Iranian-sponsored Hezbollah. Perhaps, not ‘just’ in the Middle East.

The tunnels inside Gaza and under the Israeli border are not a secret project Hamas ran under the noses of Israel and the Palestinian public. Everyone in Gaza, knew that beneath Gaza, the City and all of its environs, a network of tunnels was being dug over the past five years, with an investment of tens of millions of dollars. Yet no one in Israel, public or military, was prepared for the scope of the tunnels – the danger that became clear in the past week or two.

Senior Hamas operatives show off their offensive tunnels to their spouses.
Unbelievably, this is actually a picture of a Marriage taking place in the ‘place of death’.

In order to create this monstrosity, Hamas needed significant professional help; and this help had to have come from a large organization or state entity. This is not just the monetary aid it received from Qatar, America’s ally. This is professional guidance for the performance of such an underground feat. Perhaps Hamas could have used experts from the tunnels dug at Rafah under the Gaza-Egypt border, but those were significantly simpler, and did not demand any extraordinary investment or effort.

A Hamas operative climbing upward in a pier of one of the major tunnels.
Notice the work on the sides of the tunnel.

Who supplied these quantities of material?  Who planned what would be needed?  How did Hamas acquire thousands of ampoules of tranquilizer, syringes and other, additional drugs to be used?  These are far beyond the quantities and variety of what is needed by any civilian medical service.

How was all this brought in to the Gaza Strip? The logistics of this planned attack are the work of a well-organised military, not that of a militia or club. This was no amateur plan.

Observers note that attack scenarios lined up with recently revealed data about the sophistication, scope and nature of the offensive tunnel network. As previously reported here, this sophistication and know-how is being copied right now by Mexico-based Hezbollah agents along the Southern US border. Tunnels in Southern Lebanon, as in South US, are significantly more difficult to detect than those in the sandy terrain of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas planned these tunnels for years, and planned to use them to kidnap soldiers,” Israeli military spokesman Brig. Gen. Mordechai Almoz said. “[Now] they see the tunnels collapsing one after the other.” For the last two years, the Israeli army has sought to develop skills and equipment to fight in enemy tunnels and bunkers. Hamas and Islamic Jihad have used tunnels to operate command and control, to infiltrate Israel and abduct soldiers, to fire rockets and to conceal fighters amid invasion of the Gaza Strip.

UN Secretary General Gazan Peace Plan

4CM Media:

We draw your attention to the points 14 and 2, as many would not be

aware of these issues, as media has in most cases neglected to tell the

full story

Point 14: of UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon
The direct financing of Hamas which was put to military and terrorist purposes must end. The internationally mandated authority should ensure that banks in China, Turkey, and Qatar do not continue to finance Hamas, and that governments such as Qatar and Iran do not finance Hamas’ war crimes.
Point 2: of UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon
The ceasefire must be accompanied by massive humanitarian and medical relief, the delivery of some of which has thus far been hindered by Hamas itself, as with Hamas’ refusal to allow Gazans to avail themselves of an Israeli field hospital. Clearly, after the tragic death and destruction, there must be mandated and comprehensive international humanitarian assistance.
Below is Extracts from a detailed article by algemeiner.com {original source}

UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon said that one must seek the “root cause” of the Israel-Hamas conflict so as to enable us to resolve it. However politically incorrect it may be to say so, this culture of hatred – this genocidal antisemitism –is the root cause and has fueled the ongoing Hamas terrorist war of attrition.
Accordingly, what is so necessary now is not another ceasefire or humanitarian pause, but a ceasefire that is enduring and comprehensive, that will put an end to the Hamas Terrorist War of Attrition that has targeted Israel’s population and engulfed its own, and that will be protective of both Israeli and Palestinian civilians, as President Obama and other leaders have called for.
Such a ceasefire will hopefully be the basis for an Israeli-Palestinian peace, anchored in two states for two peoples living side by side in peace and security.
This will require traveling on the road not yet taken – an agreed upon, and guaranteed, set of international, legal, diplomatic, political, security, economic, and humanitarian undertakings and initiatives as follows:
  1. A comprehensive – and enduring – ceasefire framework not only to halt but to end hostilities must be put in place. For such a ceasefire to endure, the casus belli that triggered these latest hostilities – that has underpinned the Hamas War of Attrition – must be addressed and redressed. Simply put, Hamas must cease and desist from its policy and practice of targeting Israeli civilians and terrorizing Israeli civilian populations.
  3. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other terrorist militias must be disarmed, as called for by EU Foreign Ministers, as a sine qua non for the cessation of hostilities.
  4. The Hamas military infrastructure – and related military and terrorist assets – rockets, missiles, launchers, mortars, munitions, and the like must be dismantled.
  5. There must be a complete closure – and destruction – of the Hamas terror tunnels – the standing instrument of terror and incipient mass murder. Indeed, captured Hamas battle plans reveal that Hamas was planning a mass terror attack during the Jewish New Year that would have threatened the lives of thousands. Even during the latest ceasefire, Hamas continued to threaten to deploy these terror tunnels.
  6. An end must be put to the Hamas capacity to manufacture rockets and other military assets. Simply put, there must be a supervised monitoring of the importation of building materials – like cement and steel – that have been used for the manufacture of weapons and tunnels, rather than the building of hospitals, schools, and mosques for which they were intended.
  7. The prohibition of the transfer or smuggling of weapons, like those advanced missiles from Iran, which both Hamas and Iran have boasted about, and with which Iran has threatened to re-supply Hamas in recent days. As senior Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei said this week “Palestinian resistance missiles are the blessing of Iran’s transfer of technology.”
  8. A robust international stabilization and protection force – with the necessary mandate, mission, and numbers – should be deployed to ensure that the ceasefire is respected; that Hamas and other terrorist militias are disarmed; that the military terrorist infrastructure is dismantled; that the terror tunnels are closed and destroyed – the whole to protect against the targeting of Israeli civilians and the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields. Indeed, while Israel has been forced to use weapons to protect civilians, Hamas has been using its captive civilian population to protect its weapons.
  9. This international protection force must also be empowered to secure a total interdiction of the transfer, import, or smuggling of weapons into Gaza – which is what triggered the blockade of Gaza in the first place after Hamas assumed power in 2007.
  10. An international framework – one of the most important initiatives of the road not yet travelled – will be necessary to secure and maintain the demilitarization of Gaza, while supervising the entry of people and goods into Gaza.
  11. The deployment of this international protection force – and the demilitarization of Gaza – can provide a basis for the reciprocal opening of border-crossings, the commensurate easing of the blockades, and the development of a Gaza sea port. Indeed, the movement of people, goods, commerce, trade, development, and evolving economic prosperity were precisely what was contemplated – and was clearly possible – when Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. There was then no occupation, no blockade, no Israeli presence – only the potential for Gaza to freely develop and help usher in a nascent peace with Israel and self-determination for its people.
  12. In particular, the dismantling of Hamas’ extensive military and terrorist infrastructure – which is embedded amongst Gaza’s civilian population – and the demilitarization of Gaza – can ultimately lead to a “Marshall Plan” for Gaza with the ultimate goal of securing economic growth, development, and a sustainable peace.
  13. With order restored, an international governing authority – possibly led by the PA, but including European, American, Canadian, and Egyptian representation – should be the mandated trusteeship authority for Gaza. This can serve as a state-building authority that can be the basis for the emergence of a peaceful, rights-protecting, Rule of Law Gaza that can ultimately travel the road not yet taken to a peaceful and democratic Palestinian State.
  14. The direct financing of Hamas which was put to military and terrorist purposes must end. The internationally mandated authority should ensure that banks in China, Turkey, and Qatar do not continue to finance Hamas, and that governments such as Qatar and Iran do not finance Hamas’ war crimes.
  15. A crucial point oft ignored: Palestinian society in Gaza must be freed from the cynical and oppressive culture of hate and incitement. This not only constitutes a standing threat to Israel, but undermines the development of authentic Palestinian self-determination, as in the cruel deployment of Palestinian child labour in the terror tunnels. No peaceful solution will be possible if massive resources continue to be poured into state-controlled media, mosques, refugee camps, training camps, and educational systems that serve the sole purpose of demonizing Israel and the Jewish people, and inciting to war against them.

#RawIslam: Thousands Flee Radical Onslaught

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iraq's "Christian Capital" Wiped Clean as Thousands Flee Radical Onslaught
08/07/2014 Istanbul, Turkey. (International Christian ConcernInternational Christian Concern (ICC) is extremely troubled about the situation Iraq's Christian communities face as the advances of the Islamic State militants (IS, also known as ISIS) have taken the Christian town of Qaraqosh, as well as many of the surrounding towns and villages on the Nineveh plain. Tens of thousands more Iraqis, including Christians and other religious minorities, have fled their homes over the past 48 hours and are seeking refuge in the surrounding mountains or towards the Kurdish areas of Erbil and Duhok.
"In the past 24 hours as many as 2,000 families have arrived in Erbil," a Christian leader from Erbil told ICC on Thursday evening. "There are 700 or 800 families who couldn't find anywhere to sleep and are on the streets now," he told ICC.

At midnight, a column of ISIS vehicles rolled into the village of Tel Kepe and occupied it, though many of its population had already left, according to the Assyrian International News Agency (AINA). Kurdish Peshmerga forces that have been providing the only substantial military protection for civilians announced that they were withdrawing from the area as in many places they are now heavily outgunned in comparison with the heavy weaponry now being utilized by ISIS.

Estimates of those who abandoned their homes ahead of the ISIS advance have ranged as high as 200,000 across the Nineveh plains. The evacuation of Qaraqosh began at 2:30 A.M. when the Kurdish forces announced that they were withdrawing from the area. Bells began to toll in the churches of Qaraqosh warning the residents to take flight. According to AINA, in addition to Qaraqosh, at least eight Christian villages and towns are now empties, as well as seven Yazidi villages and 15 Shabak villages.

Multiple sources report the situation is now extremely desperate and one of life and death for hundreds of thousands of people. Even for those who manage to flee to safety in the hills, the dangers of thirst and exposure to harsh conditions have already claimed nearly 100 lives of the Yazidi religious minority stranded in the hills, and UNICEF had confirmed that nearly 50 of those were children.

Plans are in place for the United States to begin airdrops to these communities as early as Thursday evening, and they are considering military engagement as well, U.S. officials have reported. Even those who have made it to the cities have found limited support as basic resources are in short supply.

"We need our protection and rights to be put on the table," Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem II, Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, told ICC earlier this week. "The destruction of these Christian communities is a loss not just for Christians but for all in the region," he continued.

Urgent calls have come from religious and political leaders across the region to provide immediate assistance of both humanitarian aid and the support necessary to protect these communities from slaughter. Rep. Frank Wolf (VA-R), along with other members of Congress, has pointedly called on the administration to take action. "You will come to sincerely regret your failure to take action to stop the genocide in Iraq.  Your conscience will haunt you long after you leave office.  Mr. President, say something; do something," he wrote in aletter to President Obama on Thursday.

Todd Daniels, ICC Regional Manager for the Middle East, said, "The realities on the ground are heartbreaking as hundreds of thousands of lives stand to be lost at the hands of religious extremists. The violence being perpetrated against the religious minorities of Iraq is nothing short of genocide. It is imperative that the United States and the international community take urgent action to protect these communities and to provide the assistance necessary to sustain the presence of Christians in the Middle East."

SHADOW attorney-general Mark Dreyfus has called on NSW authorities to do "whatever they can" to punish a group of teenagers accused of racially abusing a busload of Jewish schoolchildren.
FIVE of the youths, believed to be aged between 15 and 17, were arrested on Thursday morning after hurling "anti-Semitic threats and also threats of violence" at primary schoolchildren, some as young as five, on a bus in Sydney's east on Wednesday afternoon.
The teenagers behind the alleged attack were too drunk to be interviewed by police when they were arrested and have been released into the custody of their parents.
Charges have not yet been laid.
But Mr Dreyfus has urged police to examine "criminal offences that may have been committed" and said the teens responsible for the "truly offensive" attack should face penalties.
"I'd urge the NSW authorities to do whatever they can to impose whatever penalty they can on those responsible for a disgraceful attack," Mr Dreyfus said on Thursday before he was to address a summit in Sydney on free speech, hosted by the Australian Human Rights Commission.
He also voiced concern about the possibility of similar attacks.
"Of course we have to be concerned every time that this kind of attack occurs. I hope we've seen the last of it.
"Every child in Australia has the right to go to school, has the right to be free in the street, on a bus, anywhere in our community without being exposed to this kind of disgraceful attack.
"This is no part of Australia's way of life."
The head of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, Vic Alhadeff, has also warned of a rise in anti-Semitism in Australia.
"It is particularly sickening when those being targeted are young children," he told AAP.
"There is no place for racism of any form in our society."
The attack in Sydney comes after six teenagers vilified an Israeli rabbi on a lecture tour in Perth on Monday, and vandals reportedly painting the words "Zionist scum" on a Perth school in July.
Police and the Department of Education have refused to confirm which school the boys were from.
